Where do we start? There are so many credit cards around at the moment with so many different offers - it's enough to make your head spin! Fundamently most credit cards run along the same terms: apply for a card, get given a credit limit you can spend up to, you pay for goods on plastic, are sent a statement for the month, then have a certain amount of time to pay at least the minimum amount of the bill which is usually 5% of the bill, a mininum of £5. The main difference between credit cards are annual fees, the interest rates charged if you do not pay the full amount back by the due date, late payment charges, loyalty/reward points, balance transfers from other store or credit cards, down to the design of the card!

Probably the best way to start looking for a credit card is to look at how you use one or intend to use it if it is going to be your first one. If for example if are buying something large and want to repay it over a few months a credit card that offers 0% apr or a permanently low apr rate may be more suitable than a card that will charge you between 14-16% apr on your outstanding balance.
